Repairs & Custom Hydraulic Cylinders California Services
Hydraulic System Services
At Rupe’s Hydraulics Custom Hydraulic Cylinders California, we differentiate ourselves from the competition by being a full-service hydraulic shop. We offer not only new components but also a wide range of services including troubleshooting, repair services for hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, and valves, as well as the design and manufacturing of brand-new cylinders, hydraulic power units, and conveyor systems through our new company, Motion Dynamics Manufacturing.
Expertise and Capabilities
We employ factory-trained technicians with extensive experience in repairing Bosch Rexroth pumps and motors, Denison Piston and vane pumps, Eaton and Danfoss (formerly Sauer-Danfoss, Sauer-Sundstrand, and Sundstrand Hydro-Transmissions) pumps and motors, as well as Chelsea PTOs and SPX/Stone power units. All components are remanufactured back to original specifications using genuine factory parts (when available) and are fully function-tested for correct pressures and flows on one of our three test stands.
Our capabilities extend to reconditioning valve plates, bearing plates, and cylinder blocks using our 24” Lapmaster lapping machine. We hold tolerances to within .0000050” (50 millionths of an inch), verified with our monochromatic light and fused quartz optical flat, which allows us to accurately read component flatness.
Enhanced Facilities
Our Custom Hydraulic Cylinders California Pump Shop has been recently renovated with new lighting and an air supply system featuring a new Atlas Copco rotary screw, continuous supply compressor. Additionally, we offer a select number of hydraulic components on an exchange basis with an acceptable core, and most new components are available upon request.
Specialized Custom Hydraulic Cylinders California Solutions
Due to our many years of combined experience, we have access to sources that most other hydraulic companies are not aware of. Other distributors may require model numbers or part numbers, which can be frustrating for equipment owners who might not have that information. This is where we excel. Provide us with the information you have, and we’ll work to find the part or convert something we have in stock to meet your needs. If a part is obsolete or has a long lead time, we may be able to retrofit a similar component that provides the same functionality as the original. We are interchange experts!
System Improvements and Quality Assurance | Custom Hydraulic Cylinders California
We’ve recently upgraded our Operating System to a more robust Job Shop/Manufacturing system, which has streamlined and improved our workflow. This upgrade has allowed us to implement changes on our shop floor to increase productivity and efficiency. Our Cylinder Shop has been redesigned and updated with new disassembly equipment, including two 60,000 lb/ft. torque Nut Busters with assisted extension/retraction cylinders. Our staging areas, inspection area, machine shop, weld shop, and assembly areas have been redesigned to clearly identify job sequences and priorities.
Presentation and Finishing
Because presentation is crucial to us, we ensure that the outside appearance of our products reflects the quality of workmanship inside. We have invested in an abrasive blaster that uses garnet as a blasting media. Blasting with garnet is similar to glass bead blasting; it removes rust and paint without damaging base metals, thereby protecting critical surfaces. We also protect internal surfaces to prevent contaminants from entering any component. Thorough cleaning ensures no abrasive remains in cracks or crevices. Finally, units are primed, painted, and packaged for pickup or delivery. You can be confident that you are receiving the highest quality repair service available today.
Equipment Repair and Maintenance
The majority of industrial equipment fails due to a lack of fundamental periodic maintenance. Many Operations Managers operate under the philosophy, “We don’t have time to shut down for maintenance; we have schedules to meet.” While there may be some truth to this perspective, it overlooks several important factors. As the old Farm commercial famously stated, “You can pay me now, or you can pay me later,” implying that paying later will be significantly more expensive. This principle also applies to corporate governance, where the focus is often on short-term returns rather than long-term, sustained growth. Similarly, in equipment maintenance, the “fix it when it breaks” approach can result in extra costs and downtime far exceeding the minimal downtime required for preventative maintenance.
Common Causes of Equipment Failure
The vast majority of hydraulic pump failures, approximately 85% – 90%, are due to contamination—whether from solid particles, water, or issues such as aeration, cavitation, or overheating of hydraulic oil. Maintaining a cool, well-filtered hydraulic system with regular maintenance can ensure it operates efficiently for years, if not decades.
Maximizing Equipment Life and Efficiency
At Rupe’s Hydraulics, we are committed to training and educating our customers to extend the service life of their equipment. While most customers understand the importance of filters in a hydraulic system, many maintenance technicians change filters based on a preset schedule or machine hours, which may not maximize filter life. A filter might still have significant useful life remaining if changed according to a periodic schedule. Conversely, in a particularly dirty system, a filter change may be needed sooner. Failure to change the filter when it is full can lead to excess unfiltered oil bypassing the relief valve and returning to the system. To maximize filter life and reduce unnecessary maintenance labor, we recommend installing a differential pressure gauge in the filter head. This gauge indicates when the filter is nearing its maximum dirt-holding capacity before the bypass valve opens.
We are pleased to offer reservoir strainers, as well as Donaldson low-pressure filters, high-pressure filters, and associated elements and accessories. Our friendly and professional sales associates are here to assist you with your needs.

Component Sales and Specialization
Comprehensive Component Inventory
Rupe’s Hydraulics is a master stocking distributor for a wide range of hydraulic components. We proudly offer Custom Hoists Cylinders, Yuken valves, and Brennan and Tompkins fittings and adapters in all popular sizes and styles, including NPT, JIC, ORB, DIN, BSPP, and JIS in straight, 90°, and 45° configurations, among others. Additionally, we distribute Donaldson filters, Atlas Copco air compressors, and products from many other manufacturers.
Authorized Repair and Custom Power Units | Custom Hydraulic Cylinders California
We are a stocking distributor and authorized repair center for Power Team tools and SPX/Stone Hydraulic Power Units with pressure ratings up to 10,000 PSI. Through the SPX/Stone Pick a Pack build program, we can build power units to your precise specifications and cross over Fenner, Enerpac, and Monarch/Bucher units.
Our inventory includes Parker/Chelsea PTOs and PTO pumps, gerotor style motors, and directional control valve sections, allowing us to assemble multiple sectional valves tailored to your needs. We also stock a variety of new and remanufactured gear, vane, and piston pumps.
Seal Department and Stocked Materials
Our Seal Department offers a wide selection of seals, wear bands, O-rings, bushings, and bearings. If an item is not in stock, we can typically source it by 11 AM the next day if ordered before 3:30 PM.
To meet demand and avoid delays, we stock popular sizes of chrome rod, honed tubing, ductile iron, steel bars, and aluminum bars up to 8 inches in diameter.
Global Sourcing and Obsolete Components
With our extensive industry experience and product knowledge, we excel at finding hard-to-locate parts and items that other distributors may not stock. Our global network often allows us to source parts from Europe, South America, and Sweden, fulfilling customer needs when other hydraulic shops cannot. We are also experts in retrofitting obsolete components and crossing over to current production items, ensuring that replacements function as well or better than the originals.
Hydraulic Hoses and Fluids
Our hose department provides American-made hydraulic hoses ranging from 1/4 inch to 2-inch diameter with pressure ratings up to 5500 PSI. We are one of the few companies that clean the inside of our hoses to a factory-required cleanliness level of ISO 4406 -2021 and shrink seal the ends to prevent contamination prior to assembly. New hoses can be supplied while you wait, often in as little as 20 minutes. We also offer specialty hoses, such as high-pressure water hoses, jackhammer hoses, and water discharge hoses, available upon request and usually ready the next day.
For hydraulic oil needs, we stock ISO 32, ISO 46, and ISO 68 in 1-gallon jugs, 5-gallon buckets, or 55-gallon drums.
